The Russian Parliament passed today a law which forbids underage children and youth under 14-18 years (upper age limit to be determined by each region individually) to be on the street between 2200 pm and until 0600 am (exact times to be fixed by each region also) without the presence with them of a parent or a legally responsible adult(walii 2amer, teacher ..etc).

Unaccompanied children are specifically forbidden to be in such places as streets, squares, parks, cinemas, malls, amusement arcades, public means of transport, cafes ..etc. and any private establishment which will have children on the premises during the night hours will be subject to punishment by fines, closure and prison depending on the severity of the case.

In an experimental run of the law in 14 of the 86 Russian Federation regions, statistics showed that crime committed by underage youth or with their participation was 14% less than before the law and crime against the underage fell by 56%.

I think business owners, specially malls and coffee shops will not like it, as they'll loose a big chunk of their clientelle

This law has existed for a long time in Austria. kids alone got arrested by police after 10pm. So I find such a law quite normal and was surprise to see kids roaming the street in Amman at night.

It isn't much about the jordanian juvenile crime scene but more about protecting the young kids from getting into trouble such as drinking, crazy driving and getting harrassed by adults.

I hope such a law would pass before my son reaches the age of 18.

Yes, I think it is a good law and I have been reading the reviews here from the Regions which has been applying it. Everyone seems to agree with it however it needed certain tunning here and there to apply it to local conditions such as length of daytime- which varies immensely in a country with 12 time zones- and also cities which are popular holiday destinations ....etc.

I do hope that someone looks into it in Jordan, we have a VERY young population here and they need all the protection that our society can give them.

this law can apply in such countries but not Jordan for sure!!!

i would encourage a curfew under the 14. but I question compliance,no matter the country.
